Igor Brichkov, MD
Dr. Igor Brichkov is a thoracic surgeon and oncologist at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is also the Director of Esophageal and Foregut Surgery. His areas of expertise are lung, esophageal, and thoracic cancers and thoracic surgery, and he is especially skilled in the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of challenging thoracic malignancies like malignant pleural mesothelioma.[1]
Dr. Brichkov is skilled in the use of robotics for thoracic surgery, which he says allows him to make much smaller incisions with better visualization and to provide better outcomes.
Education and Career
Dr. Brichkov earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Brown University and then attended medical school at Albany Medical College. He then moved on to an internship and residency in General Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center and a residency in Thoracic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His fellowship was completed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Heart Lung and Esophageal Surgery Institute. He is board-certified in both Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery.[1]
Before joining Maimonides Medical Center, Dr. Brichkov was the Director of Advanced General Thoracic Esophageal and Robotic Surgery at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Brichkov is a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is also the Associate Program Director of the Maimonides Medical Center’s General Surgery Residency.[1]
Research
Dr. Brichkov is actively engaged in research and clinical trials involving many aspects of thoracic surgery, including hyperhidrosis and the radiofrequency ablation of lung cancer.[1] He has published many articles in highly respected medical journals. His publications include:[2]
