Jeffrey Velotta, MD
Dr. Jeffrey Velotta is a thoracic surgeon at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center in Oakland, California. His patient care centers on thoracic surgery, and he is particularly skilled in minimally invasive lung and esophageal surgery, image-guided surgical techniques for small lung nodules, and multimodality treatment of pleural mesothelioma.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Velotta attended medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine. After earning his medical degree, he completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center.
He also completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.[1]
Dr. Velotta is currently a thoracic oncologist with Kaiser Permanente Northern California Thoracic Surgery. His primary location is at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center. He also has offices in Walnut Creek, Santa Rosa, and San Rafael.
Dr. Velotta specializes in minimally invasive surgery to treat lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma. He also performs esophageal procedures.
Dr. Velotta is also a clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Research
Dr. Velotta’s research interests center on surgical quality outcomes in minimally invasive surgeries for lung and esophageal cancer. He is currently involved in studies about novel ways to provide better pain relief after thoracic surgery, multimodality treatment of mesothelioma, and the incidence and outcomes for never-smokers with lung cancer.[1]
