Neil A. Christie, M.D.
Dr. Neil A. Christie is a thoracic and cardiothoracic surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. An Associate Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and director of the LIFE Bronchoscopy and Early Lung Cancer Detection Program, he specializes in minimally invasive thoracic surgery for patients diagnosed with lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma, as well as in anti-reflux surgery, fluorescent bronchoscopy, and thoracic stereotactic radiosurgery.[1]
Education and Career
After graduating from Queens University of Life Sciences, Dr. Christie earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and then completed an internship in General Surgery at the University of Toronto Western Hospital. He then completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Toronto and a Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He came to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to complete a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery, and after he completed his medical education and training, he accepted a role as Associate Professor in the Department of Thoracic Surgery.[1]
Today, in addition to his patient practice, Dr. Christie serves as the Chief of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery at UPMC Shadyside, as well as the Director of Thoracic Surgery Education at Shadyside, Director of the CT Surgery Residency Credentials Committee, and Thoracic Track Director within the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department.[1]

Research
Dr. Christie has over 70 peer-reviewed publications, more than 100 abstracts, and several book chapters and reviews to his credit. His research interests include anti-reflux surgery, fluorescent bronchoscopy, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, thoracic oncology, and thoracic stereotactic radiosurgery.[1]
