Richard D. Hall, MD
Dr. Richard D. Hall is a thoracic oncologist at UVA Health and UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. He specializes in the treatment of all types of thoracic malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer, thymic malignancies, and pleural mesothelioma. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.[]
Education and Career
Dr. Hall attended Texas A&M University as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry before attending the University of Southwestern Medical School.
After earning his medical degree, he completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia, where he also served as chief resident.
Dr. Hall completed his fellowship training at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida, before joining the UVA School of Medicine faculty and the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center.[1]
At UVA, Dr. Hall is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. He sees patients at the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center and the University Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Dr. Hall specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, pleural mesothelioma, and thymoma. He works in a collaborative team, coordinating with thoracic surgeons and radiation oncologists for the best patient outcomes.
Dr. Hall is particularly interested in the development of immunotherapy and other biological therapies for the treatment of thoracic cancers. He is also involved in the educational leadership of the internal medicine residency program and is the Hematology/Oncology fellowship program director.
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Hall is a member of the Hoosier Cancer Research Network Thoracic Clinical Trial Working Group, an independent nonprofit clinical research organization.
He was recently selected to join the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s ASCO Education Scholars Program.[1]
Dr. Hall received the UVA Department of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award in 2024 and a fellowship teaching award the same year.
Research
Dr. Hall is a clinical investigator who has designed, developed, and served as the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials. His research interests include novel therapeutics and immunotherapy for the treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies.
