Zachary Brown, DO
Dr. Zachary Brown is a surgical oncologist at NYU Langone Health in New York City. His clinical and research interest is in advanced and metastatic cancers that have spread to or originated from the peritoneal lining, including malignant peritoneal mesothelioma. He specializes in cytoreductive surgery combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, which is administered directly into the surgical site after the completion of the removal of all visible tumors. This procedure destroys microscopic cancer cells, extending patient survival and improving quality of life.[1]
Dr. Brown also cares for patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancers of the colon, rectum, appendix, and small bowel and has special training in the surgical management of skin cancers including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and Merkel cell carcinoma. He is skilled in the use of minimally invasive procedures that shorten recovery time and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians at NYU Langone to deliver the best possible care and achieve the best outcomes.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Brown earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, a fellowship in clinical research at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, a residency in Surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and a fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at the Ohio State University.[1]

Dr. Brown has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has presented his research at national meetings.

Dr. Brown is a research fellow at the National Cancer Institute, and has studied immune-based therapies and the cellular environment of cancers He hopes to translate what he has learned to patients diagnosed with metastatic cancers, bringing new therapies and clinical trials outside of the standard treatment options currently available.[1]
