Brian Henick, MD
Dr. Brian Henick is a medical oncologist at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia/New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He specializes in the care of patients with malignancies of the aerodigestive tract as well as thoracic cancers including malignant pleural mesothelioma.
As the Associate Director of Experimental Therapeutics and the Director of Translational Research in Aerodigestive Cancers in Medical Oncology, Dr. Henick’s clinical care and research are aligned to improve the effectiveness of and limit toxicity from, emerging cancer treatments.[1]
Dr. Henick’s clinical interests and areas of expertise include esophageal cancer, immunotherapy, lung cancer, mesothelioma, thoracic cancer, thoracic lung cases, thoracic oncology, and thymoma.
Education and Career
Dr. Henick earned his medical degree at Rutgers University’s New Jersey Medical School. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Yale-New Haven Medical Center.[1]
Professional Activities
Dr. Henick has presented his work at national conferences such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology and has been inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He has won research awards from the EGFR Resisters and Conquer Cancer Foundation/ASCO and was selected to the SITC Sparkathon and IASLC Academy. He was a Top Reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Precision Oncology, where he was the inaugural Editorial Fellow and currently serves on the editorial board.[1]
Dr. Henick is a “Minority/Underserved-NCORP Champion” and is committed to enhancing the representation of underserved minority groups in Columbia’s clinical trials. He was Columbia’s site lead for a NYC-wide effort to study the effects of immunotherapy in underserved minority patients with lung cancer.[1]
Research
Dr. Henick is working collaboratively with other researchers at Columbia’s Herbert Iring Comprehensive Cancer Center to develop personalized blood- and imaging-based biomarkers to guide precision cancer therapy, and to leverage cutting-edge model systems to test and enhance novel treatment approaches. He has designed clinical trials that study novel therapeutic approaches with the goal of reducing steroid dependence among patients experiencing adverse events from immunotherapy.[1]
