James D. Luketich, MD
Dr. James D. Luketich is a thoracic and cardiothoracic surgeon in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he holds the title of Henry T. Bahnson Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Luketich specializes in treating all types of thoracic malignancies, including lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma, as well as esophageal cancer.[1]
Dr. Luketich has particular expertise in the multi-disciplinary management of lung and other cancers, combining chemotherapy and radiation with minimally invasive surgical techniques to provide his patients with the best possible outcomes.
Education and Career
Dr. Luketich completed an undergraduate degree at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia; a master’s degree in biochemistry from Vanderbilt University; and received a medical degree at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, from which he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He completed an internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and fellowships in Thoracic and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, Cornell University Medical Center in New York, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.[1]
Dr. Luketich is on the editorial board of several prestigious medical journals, including the Annals of Surgery and The Journal for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.[1]

Dr. Luketich is actively engaged in clinical research and is currently an investigator or principal investigator on several NIH grants.
